According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Ike is expected to result in damage similar to that of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  ACIA National President David Karina again has been in contact with the California Governors Office of Emergency Services today notifying the agency that ACIA remains positioned to assist OES in the event that mutual aid is requested by the affected regions.

NHC has placed much of the Texas Gulf Coast under a hurricane watch as Hurricane Ike continues to extend itself from Cameron, Louisiana, to Port Mansfield, about 45 miles north of Brownsville, Texas. Storm surges of 20’ or greater are expected to hit along the shoreline of Galveston Bay. Approximately 40% of the US Gulf Coast could be affected. An advisory issued at the time said that most of the area could be uninhabitable for weeks if not longer
