2008 - The Year in Review As 2008 moves into its fourth quarter this might be a good time to reflect on the performance of this administration to date. The first paragraph of the ACIA Procedures Manual states, “It shall be the first duty of the President to advance the growth of the ACIA in the most professional manner possible.” The following lists a few items I was able to accomplish this year as ACIA President: - Scheduled the State Architect to address ACIA at the 47th Annual Symposium (2007) for the 1st time in ACIA’s 54 year history. DSA also participated in the Trade Expo with an exhibit booth (1st time).
- Scheduled CASH to participate in the 47th Annual Symposium (2007) trade show (1st time).
- Successfully rallied with AIA and ICC to extend CEU’s for ACIA seminar attendance
- Successfully proposed to the ACIA Board of Directors to rescind the 80% annual dues increase instituted the previous year that resulted in a 20% recovery of the membership lost due to the increase.
- Scheduled and represented ACIA at CASH’s annual conference trade show (1st time).
- Promoted a membership drive that increased ACIA membership by 20% in the first half of 2008.
- Re-established ACIA partnership with CA OES and attended all board meetings
- Successfully proposed RCI Div IV to OES as a credential for SAP certification
- Represented ACIA and the inspection community in general, lobbied with CASH and AIACC in opposition of AB 2995 at no expense to ACIA – the bill was withdrawn by the author.
- Represented ACIA and the inspection community in general lobbied with AIACC, Kaiser, CHA, OE3 and OSHPD in opposition of AB 2966 at no expense to ACIA – the bill was eventually rendered inactive.
- Personally instructed 13 CA OES – SAP evaluator certification classes resulting in the addition of over 230 new SAP Evaluators added to ACIA’s data base.
- Re-established partnership with OSHPD for collaborative IOR continuing education and training (last collaborative OSHPD seminar was over 5 years ago).
- Conceived, produced and promoted the largest one day seminar in ACIA history on Aug 9 – “OSHPD and the IOR”.
- Completed all scheduling arrangements with CA OES, DSA and OSHPD regarding presentation arrangements at 48th Annual Symposium (2008).
- Proposed to the ACIA Board of Directors to restructure its membership management on a fiscal year which will enable ACIA to improve its financial stability. (Currently under review)
I believe that the above is an indicator that I have lived up to the expectations of the membership that elected me as President. I have enjoyed every minute working for you this year. Thank you for this unique honor and for your confidence by re-electing me as ACIA President 2010, I’m just getting started.
