CVWD’s mission is “To meet the water related needs of the people through dedicated employees providing high quality water at reasonable cost.” A governing five-member Board of Directors is elected from five geographic divisions for four-year terms. This fiscal year, CVWD has $165.6 million budgeted for capital projects and $300 million for operating and maintenance. Currently, CVWD has a staff of more than 560.


The mission of the Engineering Department is to: Provide professional engineering and technical services that ensure long-term comprehensive planning, reliable project design, and quality construction management to meet the water related needs of the Coachella Valley. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering Services and Planning, the Chief Construction Inspector coordinates the work of the construction inspectors, trains inspectors in various technical aspects of construction, office work and field inspection duties. Construction projects include domestic water, sanitary sewer, irrigation/canal improvements and regional stormwater flood control Capital Improvement Projects led by the District and sometimes private land development projects that construct infrastructure for the District to take ownership of after completion.


A bachelor’s degree (technical or trade training/experience will be considered); AND 5 years of responsible experience in civil engineering projects and the construction of capital improvement and developer contracts, with one year of supervisory experience is preferred. Requires possession of either of the following combinations of certifications (or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment): Division I Engineering or Division II Building and Division IV Public Works by the ACIA; OR Building Inspector or Plans Examiner or Certified Building Official by ICC and Division IV Public Works by ACIA.


Salary range: $102,060 to $142,488. Relocation assistance is also offered.
